Season in Brief

Only three players from the pre-war team started this, the first post-war season. Manager Bill Dodgin's first signing was left-back Bill Rochford who was an FA Cup winner with Portsmouth in 1939. Alf Ramsay made his debut in October.

It was a season of mid-table consolidation. Saints only managed back-to-back wins on two occasions and were never higher than 9th and never lower than 16th.
