Season in Brief

The departure of manager Bill Dodgin to Fulham in the summer might have meant a slowing in the upward momentum the club was enjoying. In fact Sid Cann took over and it was business as usual. Whilst finishing one place lower than the previous season, this time promotion was only missed by goal average.

Although Saints were never higher than fourth, they had a terrific run-in, unbeaten in the final nine games including six wins. Ultimately the season ended in disappointment once again, with a popular rumour taking hold that the club didn't really want promotion.
