Season in Brief

Further progress, with a higher League position and George O'Brien and Martin Chivers netting 51 goals between them meant that, once again, Saints fans were dreaming of Division One. The squad looked strong and the mid-season signing of Jimmy Melia added a quality player to the midfield.

The only cloud on the horizon was continuing press speculation that Terry Paine would soon leave to join a top flight club. Possibly only promotion would keep him at the Dell!
