Season in Brief

The priority was to entrench in the top flight and after Lawrie McMenemy decided not to return the interest expressed in him by Leeds United during the summer he brought in Terry Curran and Ivan Golac.

League performances were satisfactory and Division One status was never in doubt despite a league goals tally equal to the relegation campaign of 1973-74; however it was in the domestic cups that the club and the fans found more success and enjoyment. This time a cup final appearance was to end in disappointment although it was generally agreed to have been the best Wembley final for many years.
