Season in Brief

Derek Statham left for Stoke in the summer but there were no signings. Danny Wallace was sold to Manchester United in September. There was a defining match in October when league leaders Liverpool were demolished 4-1 at The Dell in a match that saw Jason Dodd make his debut and Matt Le Tissier, Paul Rideout and Rod Wallace (2) score brilliant goals.

Le Tissier went on to be voted PFA Young Player-of-the-Year with Wallace a close second. Chris Nicholl's fifth season in charge saw the Saints achieve their highest finish under his command.
