Season in Brief

Off-field events took a horrible turn when Dave Jones was falsely accused of child abuse when he worked in child welfare. In November he was advised that he would face charges and in January the club gave him an unsolicited leave of absence and appointed Glenn Hoddle as temporary manager.

For once safety was secured well before the end of the season. The club hovered between 13th and 17th places for most of the season and stayed in their final position from early March onwards.
