Season in Brief

The final season at The Dell was one of further change. Glenn Hoddle was tempted away by Tottenham Hotspur in March and replaced by Stuart Gray who was given temporary charge with the assistance of Dennis Rofe.

After a slow start to the campaign results picked up and mid-table was always within reach. The final two matches of the season saw home wins. Firstly Manchester United, who had already retained the Premiership title, were beaten 2-1. Then Matt Le Tissier, who had come on as a substitute, scored the last competitive goal at the stadium in the 89th minute to secure a 3-2 win against second-placed Arsenal.
